SummaCare is headquartered in Akron, Ohio, and is one of the area’s only provider-owned health insurance companies. SummaCare was established in 1993 to provide healthcare coverage to large, self-funded employers in Akron. Today, it meets the health insurance needs of employers of all sizes and also services individual customers, including Medicare recipients.
SummaCare has a network of healthcare professionals which includes over 6,000 physicians and 50 hospitals. It is also part of a nationwide network of providers so members can be assured of access to quality medical treatment and services no matter where they are located.
The National Committee for Quality Assurance has awarded SummaCare with a three-year “Excellent” Accreditation in the Health Plan category for all lines of business. It is the only Commercial PPO plan to be awarded the “Excellent” distinction.
SummaCare offers consumers a wide range of health insurance plans from which to choose. These include PPOs (Preferred Provider Organization), HMOs (Health Maintenance Organization), and Point-of-Service plans. Dental, vision, and life plans are available as options, also.
