Satisfy Those Late Night Hunger Cravings
Food choices and overall general health, including dental health, have been solidly linked and frequent snacking without follow-up brushing and flossing, can cause harm to the teeth and rest of the body.
These are some other things, people should think about before they follow through on that snack craving:
- Snacking throughout the day is fine as long as foods with a lot of sugar and fat are avoided.
- How long a sugary food stays in the mouth can also affect dental health. Damaging acids from sugar can stick to the teeth for at least 20 minutes before they are finally neutralized.
- Sticky and chewy sugary foods can coat and stay on the teeth longer causing more extensive damage.
- Besides avoiding or limiting sugary food intake, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing at least twice a day or once after every meal, flossing at least once a day, and seeing a dentist regularly for check-ups and professional cleanings.
