Healthy Aging Tips for Men
Living a healthy lifestyle can sometimes allow people to live to or over 100 however, some young folks who do not maintain healthy habits can die before their parents. So how does one keep going and age healthily so they can reach 100?
Exercise and eat right
Exercise is one of the most important activities men can do to promote a healthy heart and reduce risks for many diseases later on in life. It doesn’t even have to be super athletic vigorous activity. A 30-minute walk around the block is a great way to get moderate exercise and add years to one’s life.
Eat right and well, such as foods high in calcium and fiber. As people age, they lose calcium, which can lead to brittle bones while not getting enough fiber means the body isn’t processing sugars efficiently enough thus raising the risk of diabetes and colon cancer.
Worry about the waist
One’s waist size is a very good measurement of how long they will live. People with wider abdomens have more internal fat putting greater pressure on their internal organs and risks damaging them. A man of average height with a waist size of 40 inches or more means he has a much higher risk for heart disease and diabetes.
Cheer up and see a doctor
Don’t worry be happy, or at least don’t be depressed, guilty, or anxious. People who have a good outlook on life, get plenty of sleep, and avoid stress can expect to live longer lives. Seeing a doctor regularly becomes more important as people age. Yearly cancer screenings means they can be caught early and are more likely to be successfully treated and cured. A doctor will also check for problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
Avoiding things that can hurt life expectancy is by far the best the way to live a long happy life. It’s not so much what someone does as what they don’t do so avoiding cigarettes, recreational drug use, drinking too much, unsafe driving habits, stress, and other risks that lower one’s life span are all great ways to start living a healthier existence.
