An Overview of HealthPartners Health Plans
HealthPartners makes available to its customers many different types of health insurance plans, all of which are formulated to help individuals maintain and improve the quality of their health while also providing essential coverage for routine and emergency care and services.
There are four major types of health insurance plans which HealthPartners offers. These are Traditional plans, Empower plans, Three for Free plans, and Short-term plans. HealthPartners provides a vast, nationwide network of more than 650,000 healthcare providers and more than 6,000 hospitals. This guarantees policyholders quick and easy access to network physicians and medical treatment facilities, regardless of where they live or are located at the time.
A medical referral from a specific doctor is not required under these plans. A wide range of annual deductibles is also offered, as are low monthly premiums and 100% coverage for well-child examinations and immunizations. Prescription drug plans are available, also, in addition to wellness discounts for fitness club memberships and other qualified healthy lifestyle programs.
The Traditional plan from HealthPartners provides health insurance coverage for inpatient and outpatient care, routine and emergency care, prescription drugs, preventive care and dental care for accidental injury. Policyholders have access to an enormous network of healthcare professionals and participating hospitals. They can also take advantage of numerous wellness programs, such as 10,000 Steps, which helps individuals improve their daily physical activity, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Additionally, HealthPartners’ Traditional plan offers Health Coaching by Phone. This service provides personalized, phone-based programs that encourage and instruct policyholders on how to lower their cholesterol, lose weight, reduce stress and manage chronic back pain.
Finally, customers who choose the Traditional plan can benefit from substantial savings by receiving discounts to fitness clubs, the purchase of exercise equipment, and memberships to Weight Watchers. The annual deductibles for this plan vary from $1,000 to $10,000. Co-insurance rates range from 80% to 100%, once the deductible amount is reached.
HealthPartners also offers the Empower HSA plan. This plan gives policyholders the choice of maintaining a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account, in conjunction with a high deductible health plan. Simply put, customers opting for this plan put money into the HSA which in turn is used to pay for routine and emergency medical needs.
The Empower plan provides similar coverage to the Traditional plan, including prescription drug coverage, preventive care, routine and emergency office visits, and hospital care and emergencies. The difference is that Health Savings Accounts give policyholders more financial control over their medical expenditures than a Traditional plan provides and they do offer some tax advantages.
The member contributes to the HSA and decides how much and when to use the funds for either routine or emergency medical care. This discourages unnecessary and costly treatments and procedures. Both 80% and 100% plans are offered by HealthPartners and deductibles can vary between $1,200 and $11,200 for in-network care.
The Three for Free plan available from HealthPartners provides members with three free in-network office visits per year. The initial cost of $200 for preventive care is covered in full and a $5 co-payment is offered for any generic drug prescription. The first emergency care treatment, including any related lab work or x-rays, is covered at 100%, after the co-payment amount of $250 has been satisfied.
The Three for Free individual plan also offers healthy living programs which promote smart lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation. Annual deductibles can range from $4,000 to $10,000 depending on which specific plan is chosen.
