Denture Care Tips
For those who have to wear them, dentures provide a vital role in how a person chews, speaks, and supports their facial muscles. It is therefore important to take extra special care of them.
The following easy-to-follow tips will help denture wearers keep them clean and long lasting:
- Before inserting dentures, clean the gums, tongue and palate.
- Remove and brush dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush and denture cleaner or toothpaste.
- Do not put dentures in boiling water or a dishwasher as this will lead to warping.
- Take dentures out before going to sleep. Soak them overnight in denture cleaner or fresh water to prevent them from drying out and losing shape.
- For those who wear partials, they should be removed before brushing one’s natural teeth.
- Do not adjust or try to fix any denture problems. This should be left to an expert.
- Follow the dentist’s instructions on the wear and care of dentures and continue to see a dentist regularly.
